Demonstration Project

South Street and Broadway/Pillsbury Demonstration Project

The City of Concord’s Planning Division, in conjunction with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee of the Transportation Policy Advisory Committee is proposing a demonstration project on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 from 7 AM to 6:30 PM.

The project will consist of two parts:

  1. South Street – Protected bike lanes on both sides of South Street will run from the intersection with Allison Street to the Abbot-Downing/Rundlett School driveway. These bike lanes will be 5 feet wide, protected by a 3’ buffer and will take the place of the parking lanes in this stretch of South Street during the day.

This section of South Street is roughly 350 feet long. Portable bollards, planters and paint will help delineate the 3-foot buffer.

  2. Cross section of South Street during the demonstration project.

  3. The Broadway & Pillsbury Street Intersection - Temporary crosswalk bump outs will be installed on the south side of the intersection to allow for a shortened crossing distance during the demonstration project.

Why do this project?

This project has been proposed as a way to demonstrate street improvements that could create a safer environment for bicyclists and pedestrians. These two locations were chosen in particular to better serve children who live in the South End of Concord and walk or bike to the Abbot-Downing and Rundlett schools, and hopefully, will encourage more children to walk or bike to school instead of being dropped off and picked up in a car.

We would greatly appreciate your feedback, so if you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please reach out to Sam Durfee, Senior Planner, at 225-8515 or via email at SDurfee@ConcordNH.gov.
